Fabrice Virayie, alias Flamengo (name of the famous Brazilian football club) grew up in a popular district in the North of Noumea in New Caledonia, the city Pierre-Lenquette where the teenager lives quite hard the political events of the 80s. Period also where the death of king of the reggae shakes the young admirer who becomes his follower. He chooses to defend the cause of his brothers Kanak, his main weapon : his voice. A voice which vibrates only in the sounds of the reggae. The child halfblood of the city is also an author and a composer. Artist was committed, he signs his first albums produced, among others, with young musicians of the city Pierre-Lenquette.
A New Caledonian artist at the top …
In 1997 Flamengo crosses uncle's road David and Pierpoljak. This meeting propels him on the big scenes outside his native country. Flamengo signs VIBES IN PARIS. An album in which collaborate talents of the French reggae, (Short Charly / drums, Short Jumbo / bass, Short). On certain pieces Flamengo invites Danny Thompson and Derrick Stewart, bass player and drummer of U-Roy. Pierpoljak, Djamatik, Supajohn, Daddy Yod will also put in it their touch. VIBES IN PARIS is sold to 30 000 copies. Flamengo takes part in various tours in Europe and in the Pacific, Vanuatu, Tahiti …
The return to the Country …
In 2001 he organizes with his friends artists the first Reggae Sunsplash in New Caledonia which attracts 30 000 spectators. A historic influx on this small island of Oceania. Hardly of this success, Flamengo organizes numerous tours, concerts, and festivals in New Caledonia and in the Pacific. The latest one is Muzikaly Festival which welcomed 83 artists and more than 30 000 spectators in 2010.
He realizes his dream …
While organizing tours and festivals, Flamengo rehearses with his faithful friend and artist Jah Fix, the group Self-defense and produces numerous compilations of artists of his region. Flamengo continues his concerts beyond the New Caledonian lagoon, in 2009, he performs in Paris, Bordeaux, and Corsica.
The artist always has the same dream in mind, that most of reggae singers have : record an album at the source of his inspiration, in Kingston, homeland of the one who have shaped his life.
In November, 2011 his dream came true. He spends three weeks in Kingston in the famous Tuff Gong Studio of Bob Marley where he recorded KANAKY KINGSTON. He invites on his album several famous Jamaican artists : the drummer Leroy « Horsemouth » Wallace, the bass player Errol « Flabba » Carter, the brass section of Burning Spear, and finally Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths, chorus-singers of Bob Marley.
With the album KANAKY KINGSTON masterised in Los Angeles by Tom Backer, Flamengo obtains the consecration in the Pacific and we hope for the same very quickly in Europe !
In June, 2012, New Caledonia government named him « ambassador » of the project « 1 Tree, 1 Day, One Life » - « 1 arbre, 1 jour, une vie ».
Through his music, Flamengo becomes the spokesman of this international ecological program, from which the objective is to protect the environment for the future generations.

Fabrice Virayie, alias Flamengo (du nom du célèbre club de foot brésilien) a grandi dans un quartier populaire au nord de Nouméa en Nouvelle-Calédonie, la cité Pierre-Lenquette où l’adolescent vit de plein fouet les événements politiques des années 80. Période aussi où la mort du roi du reggae ébranle le jeune admirateur qui devient son disciple. Il choisit de défendre la cause de ses frères kanak, son arme principale : sa voix. Une voix qui ne vibre qu’aux sons du reggae. L’enfant métis de la cité est aussi auteur et
compositeur. Artiste engagé, il signe ses premiers albums produits, entre autre, avec des jeunes musiciens de la cité Pierre-Lenquette.
Un artiste calédonien aux zéniths …
En 1997 Flamengo croise la route de Tonton David et Pierpoljak. Cette rencontre le propulse sur les grandes scènes hors de son pays natal. Dans la foulée Flamengo signe VIBES IN PARIS. Un album auquel collaborent des talents du reggae français, (Ras Charly/batterie, Ras Jumbo/basse, Ras Tea/claviers, Gaby et Lizzy/choeurs). Sur certains morceaux Flamengo invite Danny Thompson et Derrick Stewart, bassiste et batteur de U-Roy. Pierpoljak, Djamatik, Supajohn, Daddy Yod y mettront aussi leur
touche. VIBES IN PARIS se vend à 30 000 exemplaires. Flamengo enchaîne les tournées en Europe et dans le Pacifique, Vanuatu, Tahiti…
De retour au pays…
En 2001 il organise avec ses amis artistes le premier Reggae Sunsplash en Nouvelle-Calédonie qui attire près de 30 000 spectateurs. Une affluence historique dans cette petite île de l’Océanie. Fort de ce succès, Flamengo organise de nombreuses tournées, concerts, et festivals en Nouvelle Calédonie et dans le Pacifique. Le dernier en date est le Muzikaly Festival qui a accueilli 83 artistes et plus de 30 000 spectateurs en 2010.
Il réalise son rêve…
Parallèlement à l’accueil et l’organisation de tournées et festivals, Flamengo forme avec son fidèle ami et artiste Jah Fix, le groupe Légitime Défense et produit de nombreuses compilations d’artistes de sa région. Flamengo continue ses concerts au-delà du lagon calédonien, en 2009, il se produit à Paris, à Bordeaux, et en Corse.
L’artiste a toujours ce même rêve en tête, celui de tous les chanteurs de reggae : enregistrer un album à la source de son inspiration, à Kingston, patrie de celui qui aura façonné sa vie.
En novembre 2011 il réalise enfin son rêve. Il passe trois semaines à Kingston dans le célèbre studio Tuff Gong de Bob Marley où il enregistre KANAKY KINGSTON. Il invite sur son album plusieurs grands
artistes jamaïcains : le batteur Horsemouth Leroy Wallace, le bassiste Flabba Holt, les cuivres de Burning Spear, et enfin Judy Mowath et Marcia Griffith, les choristes de Bob Marley.
Avec l’album KANAKY KINGSTON masterisé à Los Angeles par Tom Becker, Flamengo obtient la consécration dans le Pacifique et… on l’espère très vite en Europe.
En Juin 2012, le gouvernement de la Nouvelle Calédonie le nomme ambassadeur du projet "Un Arbre, Un Jour, Une Vie".
A travers sa musique, Flamengo devient le porte-parole de ce programme écologique d’envergure internationale, dont l’objectif est de protéger l’environnement pour les générations futures.
