The vocal trio was formed in 1969 by Donald Manning, Bernard Collins and Linford Manning.
Their song “Satta Massagana” became the reggae’s most popular song of all time and remains the classic among the classics of Jamaican vocal reggae ! A string of hits followed including “Yimmasgan” and” Declaration of Rights”. They recorded three albums for various labels: Satta Massagana, Forward and Arise and eventually in 1998, their latest album, Reunion was released on their own label Satta Massagana Records.
Over the years, The Abyssinians have set the standard for vocal harmonies and roots consciousness in reggae music, touring the world in front of huge crowds, appreciative of the chance to see these statesmen of reggae. After a while, The Abyssinians were on a European tour again in 2011 sharing the stage with The Congos. Their rootical harmonies once again filled the clubs and venues with joyous fans, eager to witness the roots of reggae !

Le groupe formé par Bernard Collins, Donald Manning & Linford Manning en 1968, influencé aussi bien par les chanteurs soul américain, comme Sam Cook ou Curtys Mayfield, que par le rocksteady d'Alton Ellis ou Ken Boothe, rencontre un succès mondial dès la fin des années 1970 avec leur titre Satta Massagana, devenu un des classiques absolus du genre. Le hits s'enchaînent avec Yimmasgan et Declaration of Rights. Ils enregistrent trois album pour différents labels : Satta Massagana, Forward, Arise. Leur dernier album, Reunion(1998) fut enregistré sur leur propre label, Satta Massagana Records.
Au fil des années, The Abyssinians ont su conserver la pureté de leurs harmonies vocales, faisant ainsi le bonheur des foules du monde entier, toujours au rendez-vous pour acclamer ces monuments du roots reggae. Leur tournée européenne de 2011, où ils partagent la scène avec The Congos, est un succès sans précédent !
